Alice Barber Stephens — American, 1858–1932 — American Realism / Illustration
Alice Barber Stephens was a Philadelphia-based illustrator and painter whose work appeared in the leading magazines of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including Harper's, Scribner's, and The Ladies' Home Journal. She trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Thomas Eakins and continued her studies in Paris at the Académie Julian and the Académie Colarossi.
