Frans Snyders was an Antwerp painter who specialized in still life, hunting scenes, and animal subjects, helping establish those genres as major categories in Flemish Baroque painting. Trained under Pieter Brueghel the Younger and influenced by his close association with Peter Paul Rubens, he frequently collaborated with Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, and Jacob Jordaens, contributing animals and still-life passages to their figural compositions.
