Jacob Jordaens was, alongside Rubens and Van Dyck, one of the three principal Flemish Baroque painters of the seventeenth century. Born in Antwerp, he trained under Adam van Noort, whose daughter he later married, and spent his entire career in the city without the formative Italian journey common to his peers.
