Christoffel Pierson was a Dutch painter active in The Hague and Gouda during the latter half of the seventeenth century. He is remembered chiefly for his trompe-l'œil still lifes, particularly hunting trophies and arrangements of weaponry, game, and hunting paraphernalia depicted as if hung against a board or niche. This specialized genre, popularized by contemporaries such as Cornelis Biltius and Johannes Leemans, catered to patrons with sporting interests and demanded precise illusionistic skill.
