Charles White — American, 1918–1979 — American Social Realism
Charles White was an African American draftsman, printmaker, and muralist whose figurative work centered Black life with monumental dignity. Trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he came of age within the city's South Side Community Art Center and the broader Chicago Black Renaissance, later working under the WPA Federal Art Project.
