Jacopo da Ponte, called Bassano after his hometown in the Venetian terraferma, trained under his father Francesco the Elder and briefly in Venice under Bonifacio de' Pitati. He spent his career in Bassano del Grappa, building a workshop that would pass to his four sons, most notably Francesco the Younger and Leandro.
