Georges Lemmen — Belgian, 1865–1916 — Neo-Impressionism
Georges Lemmen was a Belgian painter, printmaker, and designer associated with Les XX, the avant-garde Brussels society that brought Seurat and the Neo-Impressionists to Belgian audiences in the late 1880s. After encountering Seurat's work, Lemmen adopted the divisionist technique, producing portraits, domestic interiors, and seascapes built from disciplined fields of colored dots. His portraits of family members, particularly women reading or seated in quiet rooms, are among his most accomplished works in this manner.
