Jose Navarro Llorens — Spanish, 1867–1923 — Valencian School, Luminism
José Navarro Llorens worked in Valencia during the period dominated by Joaquín Sorolla, with whom he shared an interest in Mediterranean light and coastal subjects. He painted beach scenes, fishermen, horses in surf, and rural Valencian life with a loose, vigorous brushstroke. Largely indifferent to the commercial art market, he rarely exhibited or signed his work during his lifetime, and much of his output remained in his studio at his death.
